The African-American artist Romare Bearden (1911-1988) was interested in jazz and folk during his lifetime. He is best known for his cut-up collages - so it is not surprising that the London-based experimental producer Archie Fairhurst chose Bearden's first name as his artist alias. Since releasing his debut album "Projections" on the breakbeat label Ninja Tune in 2015, he has been successful as "Romare", musically examining the processes of cultural appropriation. This does not stop him from making use of the large pool of disco, soul and spirituals.
